The Mark I Space Suit is an excellent early-game armor for aspiring explorers in Starfield, and it’s easily available thanks to a sneaky exploit. This spacesuit is a throwback to the early days of space exploration, with a clean but rugged aesthetic and impressive resistance against various types of damage.
This unique space suit is sealed inside a locked cabinet in the basement of The Lodge: Constellation’s home base in New Atlantis, on the planet Jemison (Alpha Centauri). Players first gain access to the Lodge during One Small Step, the game’s first main mission, which serves as a general tutorial. As expected, the tutorial is a priority when figuring out the best order to play missions in Starfield. It’s best to resist the temptation to jet off into the unknown when you get your boots off the ground.
How To Find The Mark I Space Suit In Starfield
By completing One Small Step, you’ll receive a Lodge Key, which can be used to unlock all of the rooms in the Lodge. Unfortunately, it won’t unlock the Mark I Space Suit’s display case, but it does grant access to the basement area. Unlock the door directly to your right as you enter the building, and follow the staircase down into the basement.
Head further into the basement until you see a small bathroom directly ahead, and take the door to the right.
Keep going until you end up in a small storage room with some crates and framed paintings. The Mark I Space Suit can be found inside a sealed display case directly to your left as you enter the room.
It’s possible to pick locks on containers in Starfield, but this requires Digipicks. As the lock on the display case is Master level, players will also need to allocate at least three points to the Security skill before they can even attempt to crack it. However, there is an easy way around this particular lock to let you grab the space suit without picking any locks.
How To Obtain The Mark I Space Suit In Starfield
Crouch, and then move as close as possible to the handle on the door of the display case. From this viewpoint, you should be able to see through a tiny gap between the door and the frame. Move the reticle up and down slowly until a prompt appears that allows you to interact with the mannequin and obtain the suit. It can be hard to find, so use the picture above as a reference.
The suit comes in three pieces: the Mark I Pack, Mark I Space Helmet, and Mark I Spacesuit, all of which have stats that easily outmatch any other early-game armor set. The set’s overall resistance to physical, energy, and EM damage is particularly impressive, and it also looks very stylish.
However, it’s worth noting that this is almost certainly not the intended method for getting this armor. As such, it’s best to grab it quickly before Starfield’s developers shore up security at the Lodge with patches and bug fixes.

- Bethesda Game Studios presents Starfield – the first original IP from the studio in twenty-five-plus years. Set in the year 2310, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective are observing a shaky truce after a war set 20 years prior. The player will customize their character as a member of a space exploration team called Constellation while navigating The Settled Systems and the conflicts between the warring factions. According to Bethesda, players can explore over 100 systems and 1000 planets to find resources and build their ships, living out their own sci-fi journeys.
