Modus Games has revealed work-in-progress footage of Projekt Z: Beyond Order, an upcoming co-op FPS zombie game set during World War 2. Developer 314 Arts has described Projekt Z as influenced by Left 4 Dead, Escape From Tarkov, and Fallout Shelter. The core game mode of Projekt Z will see co-op groups on PC venture out on story missions to gather resources and uncover secret Nazi zombie programs. Projekt Z will also feature a survival mode facing waves of zombies.
Projekt Z was first revealed in May 2022 as part of a crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter. Developer 314 Arts set a goal of €100,000, but the Kickstarter was canceled after raising just €35,805 as it was unlikely to reach its goal. Yet 314 Arts remained dedicated to the project and has since found a publishing partner in Modus Games. Fans of 314 Arts’ previous game, Vengeance, have been waiting patiently for more information regarding Projekt Z since.
A reveal for Projekt Z has now been made. As part of the Feardemic Fear Fest 2023 event, Modus and 314 Arts have shared a new trailer for Projekt Z providing a look at what the zombie game has grown into. The trailer focuses on the story of Projekt Z, which starts with the players’ airplane crashing on a remote island controlled by the Nazis during WW2. What they discover on the island is a Nazi plan to weaponize zombies that went seriously awry.
While it’s unclear how much of the game first teased on Kickstarter remains and what it has since changed into, the new Projekt Z trailer does hint at one feature that’s been kept. The original Projekt Z reveal promised robust crafting systems. In the new trailer, there is a glimpse of support for robust weapon customization being included in the game.
Unfortunately, the trailer does not delve into one of Projekt Z‘s most creative and interesting features, its Hideout system. The Hideout is a hub where players will be able to build a base, gather NPCs, and upgrade weapons and gear. The trailer instead focuses on Projekt Z‘s first-person zombie-killing mayhem and WW2 setting.
There’s still a lot about Projekt Z left to share, it seems. But this is a good way to start revealing what Projekt Z is becoming now that 314 Arts has partnered with Modus Games. Some things left to clarify include whether Projekt Z will be a free-to-play game, how much of an Escape from Tarkov-like experience will be at its heart, and whether there are still plans to bring it to console. For now, it looks like an exciting WW2 zombie shooter with co-op.
Projekt Z: Beyond Order is in development for PC.
