Bungie has announced changes to the Essence drop rates in the Crota’s End raid in Destiny 2 and has revealed the release date for the raid’s Master difficulty mode. Crota’s End is the third reprised raid that was recently launched with Destiny 2 Season of the Witch.

Bungie had introduced the concept of reprised raids with Season of the Splicer, where Vault of Glass became the first raid to make a comeback. This was followed by King’s Fall which launched during Destiny 2 The Witch Queen DLC, eventually leading up to Crota’s End. To make the Crota’s End day 1 raid experience even more rewarding, Bungie made the Necrochasm Exotic Auto Rifle a guaranteed drop for players who completed the raid in Contest mode. For those who couldn’t, the process is a little more tedious now as they have to collect 20 Essence of the Oversoul to acquire the weapon. However, the Essence of the Oversoul is a scarce drop which makes the grind for the weapon extremely tedious. To rectify this, Bungie is tweaking the drop rates for the same and is also introducing the raid’s Master version.

This was revealed in Bungie’s weekly Destiny 2 blog post, where Essence of the Oversoul will now be a guaranteed drop for beating Crota and for completing all four raid encounters. Additionally, players will also get one guaranteed Essence for every additional full completion of the raid during a week. To incentivize players further, the random drop rate of Essence from individual raid encounters has also been increased. The icing on the cake is that players will also have a chance to get all Essence required for Necrochasm and its catalyst in a single run, similar to the Exotic drops from other raids.

Aside from these changes, Bungie is also introducing the Master difficulty version of Crota’s End in Destiny 2 on September 19. In addition to this, the weekly challenges for the raid will also be available on the same date, which will increase players’ chances of getting more Essence of the Oversoul. Moreover, players will have to complete all the challenges in Master difficulty to unlock the Adept weapons from the raid, which will drop with two perks in each column.

Along with this, Bungie also revealed that it will start phasing out Legendary Shards in Destiny 2 starting in Season 23. There are also a bunch of PvP changes and additions arriving with Season 23, which includes a new Iron Banner mode and a returning Crucible map.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
