• Some Mortal Kombat 1 players are disappointed with Megan Fox’s robotic voice acting for the character Nitara.
  • There is a comparison made to the reception of Ronda Rousey’s voice acting for Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11, suggesting Nitara’s voice acting is worse.
  • The use of celebrities as voice actors in games, like Megan Fox, is a common strategy to generate interest, though it doesn’t always result in positive reception. Despite the criticism of the voice acting, Mortal Kombat 1 remains highly anticipated.

Some Mortal Kombat 1 players aren’t happy with Megan Fox’s voice-acting performance. Mortal Kombat 1 is available in early access, so the game’s first impressions are already out.

One of the most striking aspects of Mortal Kombat 1 is the presence of Kombatants from various periods of the franchise. Iconic names such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, and Kung Lao are present, while a fighter from Mortal Kombat‘s 3D era is back. In addition to the base roster, Mortal Kombat 1 features the Kameo Fighter system, bringing other fan favorites such as Cyrax, Goro, and Stryker to the fold. But despite all the hype surrounding Mortal Kombat 1‘s fighters, one name didn’t win the hearts of some players for a specific reason.

Reddit user DaAsteroidRider is one of the Mortal Kombat 1 players who isn’t happy with Megan Fox’s voice acting. For them, the lines spoken by Nitara, the Mortal Kombat 1 character voiced by Megan Fox, are too robotic. The player also questioned whether the actress “couldn’t have put more effort.” Meanwhile, Reddit user YaboiDan0545935 published a meme with images of Sonya Blade and Nitara, recalling a similar controversy experienced by the franchise. Mortal Kombat 11 cast Ronda Rousey to lend her voice to Sonya Blade, and the result didn’t have a stellar reception. OfficialJoshV is another Redditor who has expressed their frustration with Fox’s voice acting, saying that to them, none of Nitara’s lines sound remotely authentic.

In the comments on the posts by DaAsteroidRider, YaboiDan0545935, and OfficialJoshV, other users agreed that the voice acting was underwhelming. One user said they were surprised at how dry Nitara sounds in Mortal Kombat 1. Another Redditor said they would have preferred Cristina Valenzuela, known for voice-overs in projects like Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as Nitara. On social media, several gamers recalled Rousey’s performance in Mortal Kombat 11, with some saying that Sonya’s voice acting “isn’t that bad compared to Nitara’s.”

It’s common for studios to cast celebrities in the production of games, and it’s no different with Mortal Kombat. The franchise often brings famous names as voice actors, such as Johnny Yong Bosch, the Black Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, who voiced Takeda in Mortal Kombat 11. It’s a strategy used to boost sales or increase the number of eyes interested in a game, with the results varying from case to case. Although Megan Fox’s voice acting in Mortal Kombat 1 didn’t please players, the game is still highly anticipated by the community.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
