World of Warcraft is adding a bunch of new content for Dragonriding in Patch 10.2, including the fully-customizable Flourishing Whimsydrake. Additionally, World of Warcraft players will have an evergreen opportunity to get the Grotto Netherwing Drake, as well as brand-new customizations for the mount.
Since its introduction in Dragonflight, World of Warcraft fans have fallen in love with Dragonriding. Blizzard recently confirmed the popular and dynamic flight system would be coming to the rest of the game, and has begun testing its functionality via old world Dragonriding races like the Kalimdor Cup that recently ended in World of Warcraft.
Now, Patch 10.2 is introducing two new Dragonriding drakes for players to collect and customize. The Flourishing Whimsydrake is the first, which players will earn early on in the Guardians of the Dream campaign. A distant cousin to the diminutive faerie dragon, the Flourishing Whimsydrake’s butterfly-like wings and antennae, bold and rich color options, and charming expression will give players an excellent mount option for characters with a fey-like or natural aesthetic.
The second mount is not technically a new one. The Grotto Netherwing Drake was originally given away as the Trading Post reward in July for World of Warcraft players who completed their monthly tasks, though it couldn’t be customized at all. However, players who missed it back then will have another chance to earn it via a quest in Patch 10.2. Regardless of how they get it, the shark-like Grotto Netherwing Drake will have options to change its color, tail, horns, and more like the existing Dragonriding mounts.
In addition to these new mounts, World of Warcraft is adding plenty of customizations for the existing Dragonriding drakes. Players can collect new manuscripts from the Dream Wardens Renown track, and through other activities in the new patch. Additionally, players who defeat Fyrakk in World of Warcraft’s next raid can get special customizations for the Renewed Proto-Drake to transform their mount into his normal or Shadowflame forms, or they can get Anu’relos, Flame’s Guidance–a fiery owl that is the first non-dragon mount able to use Dragonriding.
Fans who enjoy Dragonriding in Dragonflight have no lack of content to look forward to in Guardians of the Dream. Patch 10.2 brings a slew of new Dragonriding racecourses, new glyphs to collect, and two new abilities: Swift Skimming, which enables Ground Skimming to work alongside Thrill of the Skies, and a buff to Aerial Halt called Wind’s Respite.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
