How to Unlock the Secret Survivor (Robomando) in Risk of Rain Returns

Risk of Rain Returns already has an impressive cast of over a dozen characters, but Hopoo Games went further beyond and added a secret survivor to their 2D action roguelike game. Robomando is more of a love letter than an overpowered hidden character, but players will need to unlock him in order to truly complete the game.

Getting Robomando in Risk of Rain Returns will have players go through several hoops over two different runs. The process isn’t complicated, and there are plenty of ways to guarantee survival as players attempt to unlock this secret character.

How to Get Robomando in Risk of Rain Returns

It’ll take a while before players can unlock Robomando. The full list of steps is as follows, with a more detailed guide on how to accomplish each down below.

Start a run on Drizzle difficulty
Get the Strange Battery in the Temple of the Elders.
Store the Strange Battery in an Equipment Box underneath the UES Contact Light.
Die, then start a new run on Rainstorm or Monsoon difficulty.
Reach the teleporter on the third stage.
Teleport to the next stage at exactly 22:00 on the run timer.
Find Robomando in the fourth stage.
Die to Robomando.

First, players need to reach the Temple of the Elders on Drizzle difficulty to get the Strange Battery, an Equipment item hidden on the far left side of the map. Players must climb to the top of the temple and drop down the left wall to reach a ledge with a pot. Interact with the pot to get the Strange Battery.

Next, finish the map as per usual, then enter the final stage. Grab a keycard, then open the door to the Cabin located in the bottom-right of the ship’s middle section. Go through the hole in the wall and drop down the ledge to find the Golem Party Easter egg. Jump through the little indent on the wall to the left, then get to the Equipment Box waiting on one of the platforms. After this, either finish the run or die to a monster.

Start a new run on either Rainstorm or Monsoon difficulty. It may be best to turn the Damage Taken multiplier to 10% just to make things easier. Some artifacts like Command and Glass will also make this part of the unlock process less troublesome.

Players can continue normally all the way to the third stage and should complete the teleporter event as soon as possible. Once the teleporter stops charging, monsters will stop spawning, and all players need to do is wait until the run timer hits 22:00. As soon as the clock hits that time, players should teleport to the next stage.

Next, search the map for an underground area to find Robomando. There will be a big green arrow above his head, similar to the ones found on drones. Interact with Robomando but do not kill him; players should let Robomando kill them instead. Once the run is over, Robomando will be unlocked as a new playable character.
