Gamers will finally be able to get their hands on the all-new Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake laptops, which are being listed at numerous online stores across the United States. Meteor Lake is the codename given by Intel to the first-generation Intel Core Ultra mobile CPUs that will be launched on December 14 at the “AI Everywhere” event. Earlier, the company had plans to start off the line of 14th generation chips with the Meteor Lake label, but chose to launch them as Raptor Lake CPUs instead.
Intel first revealed the Core Ultra Meteor Lake CPUs in a Roadmaps and Milestones document published in February 2022, hinting at several enhancements to the CPU, GPU, and other accelerators, as well as AI integration and a multi-chip GPU architecture that offers discrete graphics-class performance. Furthermore, an industry insider leaked the Meteor Lake CPU names on social media, giving fans more insight into the Core Ultra lineup. Intel has also changed the naming convention of its CPUs by dropping the letter ‘i’ from tiering and introducing new processor numbering.
Earlier, Intel Meteor Lake CPUs were designed as mobile-only processors, with the desktop variants announced much later. There were several rumors on social media that the production of the desktop CPUs was canceled, since the company didn’t provide any update on their release at the Innovations 2023 event. However, Intel put those rumors to rest by confirming the arrival of Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs in 2024. Now that the Intel Core Ultra processors are ready for release, various online retailers are listing the first-ever Meteor Lake laptops that will be available from December 18 onward.
According to the listing, the first laptop series equipped with the Meteor Lake processors is the MSI Prestige AI EVO, which comes in the 13″ and 16″ variants and will have the Core Ultra 5 125H and Core Ultra 7 155H CPUs. It is expected that MSI will roll out more laptops with Meteor Lake CPUs soon, including the Prestige AI Studio, Stealth AI Studio, Stealth AI, and CreatorPro AI Studio series. These new processors contain on-package LPDDR5X memory, aiming to compete against Apple’s M1 and M2 chips with their enhanced performance.
With the launch of the Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake CPUs around the corner, more and more laptops will be flooding the market soon, enabling players to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience. The new processor series will surely further the Intel vs. AMD competition as the latter gears up to release the Ryzen 8000 CPUs next year.
