On a wild day for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, the PS5 exclusive’s release date has been revealed to be January 19, 2024, thanks to a leaked trailer. In fact, The Last of Us Part 2 leaked several times just today. First, a dataminer spotted the title while Insider Gaming corroborated the report. Things heated up even more as a listing for the game was spotted online. Events finally culminated with developer Naughty Dog officially announcing the remaster.
Gamers have been tracking the PS5 title for some time now, as rumors about The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered began circulating last month thanks to an artist’s LinkedIn profile. Needless to say, The Last of Us Part 2 isn’t exactly the best-kept secret in the gaming industry at this point. And now, it appears as though fans have an exact date to look forward to.
Developer Naughty Dog shared a trailer on social media for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, which revealed the game’s release date to be January 19, 2024. The game is slated to be a PS5 exclusive with more than just upgraded graphics. In fact, the remastered game offers a bevy of new features including a brand-new game mode and plenty of behind-the-scenes content. Of course, this all comes on top of improved loading times, full DualSense integration, and 4K gaming in Fidelity Mode.
When Does the Last of Us 2 Remastered Release?
Interestingly, the remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2 will feature a roguelike survival mode called “No Return.” The new gameplay mode will feature unlockable characters, some of which have never before been playable in a Last of Us game. Among several other features, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will also feature lost levels that allow players to explore early-development versions of unreleased stages.
Even without the various leaks, a remaster of The Last of Us Part 2 isn’t a surprise as the first game in the series has seen several re-releases over the years. Most recently, Naughty Dog created a from-the-ground-up remake of the original, which resulted in The Last of Us Part 1 receiving several improvements.
After countless iterations between just two games over the past decade, some believe that The Last of Us Part 2‘s remaster might be the last straw for a significant portion of fans. Players already debated over the necessity of a Last of Us remake, and a remaster of a three-year-old game might be construed by some as a simple cash grab. While there is merit to the argument that fans might become exhausted after countless re-releases, perhaps the best argument against this is Skyrim. The game has been ported to just about every platform under the sun at this point, but the next Elder Scrolls game is easily one of the most anticipated games despite gamers knowing next to nothing about it.

The Last of Us Part 2
The Last of Us Part II is the follow-up to the original game in the series. This time around, players control both Ellie and Abby. The game won many awards, including smashing the record for the most Game of the Year awards.
