The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered edition will be accompanied by a bevy of new gameplay content including a survival roguelike mode and playable lost levels. Fans of The Last of Us Part 2 have had quite the day as the remaster has leaked several times in the past 24 hours. Finally, some concrete information was offered thanks to an official announcement from the game’s developer, Naughty Dog.
Gamers have been watching the anticipated title for a while already, as The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered leaked last month. While fans might be quick to write a remaster of a three-year-old game off as a simple cash grab, the upcoming title will feature some interesting new gameplay modes that look to make it a compelling purchase.
Developer Naughty Dog shared a post on social media that includes a trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, along with an announcement of several new features, including a roguelike survival mode titled “No Return,” playable lost levels, and guitar free play. This, of course, is in addition to updated graphics and various quality-of-life improvements such as faster load times.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered New Gameplay Features
- A new roguelike gameplay mode titled “No Return”
- Three playable lost levels complete with developer commentary
- Guitar free play
The headliner among the announced new content is the No Return roguelike survival mode. No Return takes the character-defining combat from The Last of Us Part 2, and asks players to survive as long as possible. The new mode will feature several unlockable characters, some of which have never before been playable in a Last of Us game. The survival mode will take place at various memorable locations from throughout the game.
Additionally, players will have the chance to venture through three different early-development versions of lost levels from The Last of Us Part 2 with developer commentary. Lastly, a guitar free play mode will expand on the fan-favorite feature from the original title. Not only can Last of Us 2 players use the guitar to play real songs as they did on the PS4 version, but gamers will reportedly have opportunities to unlock additional instruments.
Of course, gamers would argue that there are a slew of older PlayStation exclusives that need remasters more than The Last of Us 2. That said, the new features make this a much more compelling title than originally thought. Not to mention, the remaster looks to be the definitive version for PS5 owners who have yet to play the acclaimed game.

The Last of Us Part 2
The Last of Us Part II is the follow-up to the original game in the series. This time around, players control both Ellie and Abby. The game won many awards, including smashing the record for the most Game of the Year awards.
