A reliable gaming news leaker has shared some interesting information about Marvel’s Wolverine, including a potential launch window of 2025, along with its tone and narrative setting. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 now out in the wild, Insomniac fans are turning their sights toward the developer’s upcoming Wolverine game, which was announced alongside Spider-Man 2 back in 2021. During an action-packed PlayStation Showcase livestream, eager players were greeted by the sight of Logan sitting in a dirty bar surrounded by bodies, with his trademark Adamantium claws revealing exactly who is starring in Insomniac’s next epic superhero title.
Since then, very little has been officially revealed about Marvel’s Wolverine, save that it will be set in the same continuity as Insomniac’s acclaimed Spider-Man games and that Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt D. Williams will serve as Narrative Director. This has fueled speculation that Insomniac will embrace Logan’s darker and more violent nature in Marvel’s Wolverine, mirroring the approach taken by 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game. Additionally, fan-favorite Wolverine voice actor Steve Blum posted an interesting message on social media earlier this year that had fans suspecting that he will reprise his role as the tough-as-nails Canadian mutant.
Noteworthy video game leaker Daniel Richtman claims to know a great deal more about Marvel’s Wolverine, as reported by GamingBolt earlier this week. According to Richtman, Insomniac is aiming to release Marvel’s Wolverine at some point in 2025 despite previous claims that the game would launch next year. These leaks suggested that Wolverine could be delayed internally to allow Insomniac to focus on finishing Spider-Man 2, and if Richtman is correct this could very well be the case.
Daniel Richtman’s latest claims also support previous rumors that Marvel’s Wolverine would be set at least partially in Madripoor, the fictional Southeast Asian city that was briefly featured in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Some of Wolverine’s most famous comic stories are set on the crime-ridden island, so many agree that it’s a natural setting for his next solo game. Additionally, Richtman says that Marvel’s Wolverine will have a darker and more mature tone than Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, something that was hinted at by creative director Brian Horton not long after the game was announced in 2021.
Given the high quality and chart-topping success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and its predecessors, fans are eager to see how Insomniac handles Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine. The fact that so much of the upcoming game is still shrouded in mystery only adds to this excitement, though players might not get answers until at least 2025 if Daniel Richtman is to be believed. If his claims are true, then Marvel’s Wolverine could also be one of the darkest and most brutal Marvel titles ever made.
Marvel’s Wolverine is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
