The unique Item Creation system in Star Ocean: The Second Story allows players to change the dynamics of combat, leveling, and equipment. Several powerful weapons, like the Sword of Marvels that Claude can use in Star Ocean: The Second Story R, make the game easier to play, making bosses less challenging to beat.
However, an even more powerful sword for Claude can be crafted with the right know-how, tools, and skills, the Aeterna Sword. The Aeterna has better stats than The Sword of Marvels in every way and is considered one of Claude’s ultimate weapons.
Crafting The Aeterna Sword In Star Ocean: The Second Story R
The Armory Contest
Before being able to craft the Aeterna Sword, Claude must compete in the gladiatorial event called the Armory Contest. Claude must get to the final and fight Dias to obtain the Deadly Edge. The events in Laucer City occur as part of the Star Ocean: The Second Story’s main quest. Ensure Claude is sufficiently leveled to become the runner-up in the contest.
After the fight, return to the city, walk up the hill on the western side of Laucer, and speak to the legendary blacksmith Gamgee. He explains that Dias was impressed with Claude and requested Gamgee make him a weapon. After the conversation, the blacksmith hands over the Deadly Edge.
Increase Claude’s Customization IC/Specialty
For a 100 percent success rate in customizing the weapons that Claude needs, he must be a level 10 in the Customization specialty. Use the following steps to increase Claude’s Customization:
- Press the Camp menu button with Triangle on the PlayStation or X on the Switch.
- Select Improve.
- Highlight and select IC/Specialty Skills.
- Increase Aesthetic Design with Skill Points to level 10.
- Increase Smithing to level 10
- Increase Eye for Detail to level 10.
This is more than Claude needs, but it’s safer to cover all the bases and improve his chances of crafting the correct weapons to make the Aeterna Sword.
Get The Mithril Rewards
Mythril is a valuable resource to craft some of the best weapons in the game. The best way to get Mithril in Star Ocean: The Second Story R is to redeem the Challenge Mission called Reach Customization Lv. 10. The party will be rewarded with five Meteorites and five Mithrils for reaching level 10 and completing the Challenge Mission.
Additionally, players level up a character’s Blacksmith skill to level 10 and redeem the Challenge Mission for another three Mithril. Claude needs a minimum of two Mithril in his inventory.
Craft The Blade Of Minos
Players should save the game before attempting the craft. With Claude’s Customization skills at level 10, there shouldn’t be concern about crafting the items the first time, but it is better to be cautious.
- Access the Camp menu.
- Highlight and select IC/Specialty.
- Select Customization.
- Select Claude.
- Select the Deadly Edge as the first consumable item.
- Then select Mithril.
- Select Yes to implement IC.
- Claude will craft the Blade of Minos.
Craft The Aeterna Sword
With the Blade of Minos and extra Mithril, it is time to craft the Aeterna Sword:
- Head back into Customization from the IC/Speciality menu.
- Select Claude.
- Select the Blade of Minos as the first item.
- Then select Mithril.
- Implement the IC to craft the Aeterna Sword.
